Self Branding

Identity Manual - Typography I

Overview
Brand Identity for myself made in typography I class. The typeface, GT Eesti was used for the logo and text of the identity manual book (seen below).

The logo mark is derived from my initials, AY and was formed through many iterations. Nature has always been a huge inspiration for me, and soon became a strong element in the design. I was also interested in suprematism, an art movement which helped lay the foundations for modern graphic design, and the use of floating shapes in space. For the logo type, I chose GT Eesti for it’s round, friendly shape as the typeface itself was a rebirth of Zhurnalnaya Roublennaya found in soviet children’s books. I then chose to round off the corners to fit with my personality and the curves in the logo mark.

For the book, one of the limitations given was to use the french fold format for the pages. I chose to personalize my manual by risograph printing a light red on the inner page surface to give the viewer something unexpected, and to tint the book edges pink. Pink soon became a secondary accent colour to go along with my brand.

The original copy of this manual now lives in my professor, Franz Werner’s collection of student work to be shown as a reference to future students at RISD.
